Introduction - GI Surgery Department
Department of Surgical Gastroenterology was established on 1st July 2021 with the mandate to develop the service and to train the specialist manpower in gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatobiliary and transplant surgery. The fundamental responsibility of Department of Surgical Gastroenterology is to cater service to the patients with digestive diseases which include outpatient clinic that is run every day except Saturday, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, ERCP and EUS), inpatient and complex upper gastrointestinal, colorectal, pancreatobiliary, hepatobiliary for both benign and malignant conditions and visceral transplant surgery. Our department is involved in treatment of benign and malignant condition of digestive system involving esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, liver, gall bladder, and pancreas.
The next important responsibility of this department is to run the MCh program in Surgical Gastroenterology to produce specialists in Surgical gastroenterology (GI and HPB Surgeons). Besides this our department is also responsible for training of Surgical Gastroenterology which is a major part of MS General Surgery Residency program.
The Department is also responsible to conduct various basic science as well as clinical research in Surgical Gastroenterology.
